compiz is basically a settings manager!! its for linux os's and it has wide range of features and desktop effects which the present microsoft's windows vista and 7 has!!

but all these was there even before vista was released!!!!
and the 2006 versions' desktop effects surpasses the present win 7!!

SOOO can u now imagine the present desktop effects??
wont believe it then just go to youtube and search for "compiz effects"!!
u'll not even imagine that these effects can work smoothly on 512Mb RAM without any glitches!!

and morever all for free!!!

this is the water effect!! water follows wherever ur pointer moves!!

this is the cylinder deformation of the cube, it also can be made a sphere

this is the window previews !! this idea was actually copied to windows!!

this is the alt + tab switcher !! it cycles around the windows that are open!! this is unique to linux! its called shift switcher(cover)! hope its copied to the next

version of windows!

this is also the same but if a window is minimised it shows its logo to indicate that its minimised !!

this is also the shift switcher(flip)!!

this is the classical rain effect!! though of no use its just an eyecandy!!

Why is it called Opensource?

Why is Opensource software called so anyway?Why can't we just call it free software or freedomware or something similar you may wonder.
To understand why this particular name was chosen,you need to have some knowledge about how software is made.

Every software program is made by first typing some instructions in a file in way that the computer can understand.The file is called the 'source' file and the instructions are called 'source code'.This process is not as straightforward as you might think.You need to to type around 5 lines of code just to print your name.Full fledged software packages like Microsoft Office for example,contains millions of lines of code.That's not all,supposing you make a single spelling mistake in your code the program will not be created,instead you will get an error message.There are a 20-30 different types of errors,each more difficult to track than the other.Creating software is hard work you know.

In case of Open source software,the source code can be downloaded and edited by anyone who has an Internet connection and a knowledge of computer programming(You can download it without knowing programming but then you cannot edit it).You don't have to pay a single penny for modifying the program - in fact you are encouraged to do so as this is how Open source software is developed.This is in sharp contrast to closed source software like MS office where the source code is heavily guarded and are patented.

Sharing source code is like wholeheartedly letting your friend copy your assignment for which you spent weeks to complete,except on a much larger scale.Since the source code is 'open' for anyone to edit,these type of software came to be known as Opensource software.Opensource is not just software it is a philosophy,a state of mind.Support Open source and support true freedom.

1)Why bother?
Most people just don't care about software. As long as they are able to play music, play games and log in to facebook they're satisfied. that's all they expect from their comp!! They don't want to experiment, try somethin new, explore and exploit the the full capabilities of their stupid box i.e.computer. If you are not this type then continue reading.

2)Quality never comes free:
Most people believe that since opensource software are usually free,they are no good as nothing good comes free in lyf . This is absolutely wrong. opensource supporters such as us know that

"All Good Things in Life Come Free."

You maybe wondering what's actually open source software is! Its basically a free software and the user has every right to MODIFY, SHARE (even sell) and do anything with the software!! and all this for free!! now you may think what's so great in that!! actually
you can modify anything and everything of that software ( but one thing you MUST know :- programming )!!

but what if a layman like me or you doesn't know how to program!!
solution :- learn programming :(
OR
make the max utilization of these free software which has the best quality!!
proof :- millions edit and solve the problems (remove bugs) in open source and the problem is actually solved within days (hours actually) whereas in paid and other kinda of software such as Microsoft's there's nothing you and i can do if something goes wrong !! only solution wait for another few years for the next release :(
so support open source software!!
you may feel dis might some software shit!! but when you see its capabilities ,its user interface, stability, features and everything else is all awesome!!
